EUROPEAN COMMISSION
The European Commission, established in 1958, is the executive branch of the European Union (EU). It originated from the European Economic Community (EEC) and has evolved to oversee policies, enforce EU laws, and propose legislation. Headquartered in Brussels, it comprises 27 commissioners, one from each member state, led by a President. The Commission's mission is to promote the EU’s general interest, ensure policy implementation, and uphold treaties. It fosters economic growth, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion. The Commission also represents the EU internationally, negotiating trade agreements and responding to global challenges. Its role is crucial in maintaining European integration, stability, and prosperity across member states. The European Commission faces two pressing issues in this committee session, spanning criminal activity and social unrest. Delegates are encouraged to consider the complex interplay between economic factors, social tensions, and political movements in formulating their proposals to combat these pressing issues facing the European Commission member states.

DIRECTOR
Alexia Espinoza Vlad
Alexia Espinoza Vlad is a sophomore in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She is pursuing a major in International Politics, with a concentration in International Law, Institutions, and Ethics, and a minor in Justice and Peace Studies. She often goes back home to Naples, Florida to escape the brutal DC winters! Alexia has been involved in Model UN since freshman year of high school, so she’s going on 6 years of debate and diplomacy! She has competed in and staffed conferences on both the high school and collegiate circuits. Her NAIMUN journey began as the Director of the Commission on the Status of Women at NAIMUN LXI. She fell in love with the educational impact of the committee, which inspired her to apply to the NAIMUN LXII Secretariat. Her role as one of the Under-Secretaries-General of Economic and Social Councils gave her valuable experience creating rich, unique committees of substantive excellence, a mission that she will be bringing with her as the current Secretary-General of NAIMUN LXIII . Apart from NAIMUN, Alexia has also served as a chair at NAIMUN’s sister collegiate conference, NCSC, and DistrictMUN, Georgetown’s middle school conference. When she’s not working on Model UN, Alexia advises international non-profit executives with Georgetown Global Consulting, welcomes prospective students and families to Georgetown’s campus through her hilarious and relatable campus tours, and works at the Mortara Center for International Studies. In her free time, she loves to try new foods around DC, spend money she doesn’t have on various exercise classes, and sing all types of music, from opera to jazz.
