UK PARLIAMENT
The Parliament of the United Kingdom is one of the oldest legislative bodies in the world, tracing its roots to the 13th century. You will be simulating the House of Commons, where representatives across the UK, from England to Northern Ireland, convene. It is the legislative body of Great Britain, with the ability to impose taxes, and controls the budget of the government. There are around 650 representatives in the House of Commons, each one representing a constituency inside Britain. You will be drafting bills and legislation that will be legally binding for the UK, unlike most UN resolutions. The House of Commons is a place of much debate, with debate on not only policy, but also the having question periods, where the opposition is able to attack the government on their handling of issues and raise concerns on certain problems. In today's debate, you will discuss issues that have plagued the UK for years, being the UK-India FTA, and the constant issue on policing. The House of Commons remains one of the major pillars of the democratic system in the UK, and whatever decisions you choose to make in this parliament will be recorded for generations to come.
